The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet will be gracing the stage of The Eccles center on April 7th, beginning at 7:30PM. This will be an encore performance for the traveling troupe as their first go-round in Park City was so well received! The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet blends both classical and contemporary dance while consistently exploring edgier works that charm and dazzle audiences. The New York Times called this dance troupe “a breath of fresh air” because of their vibrant performances and staggering precision. Keeping with the fine arts theme, the annual Chamber Music festival is on the horizon. Three separate concerts will take place on April 6th and 7th at Hoffman Fine Art, in the Redstone Center, located in Kimball Junction as well as at the Park city Community Church. Both Friday and Saturday’s performances will take place at the Hoffman Fine Art location, and the third concert will take place on Sunday at the Park City Community Church. This festival was introduced to the Park City community as a way to introduce both locals and visitors alike to Chamber Music. The salon concert format, which is held on Saturday, will include dining as well. There will be a buffet of heavy hors d’ oeuvres and other refreshments offered that guests may help themselves to while enjoying mingling with other concert attendees as well as the musicians. If Easter is on your radar, and you have little ones hopping around patiently awaiting a visit from the Easter Bunny, you’ll want to take them to Swaner Eco Center for their spring celebration. Kids of all ages can enjoy a variety of activities as the Eco Center welcomes the Spring Season at the preserve! The youngsters will enjoy coloring eggs with all natural eco-friendly dyes, while the older kids will have a ball participating in a Geocache egg Hunt! Kids will use GPS units and a treasure map to find egg stashes all around the Preserve. There is a 45 charge for non-members to participate, all are welcome. This time of year in Park City, Utah is fantastic! Warmer spring temperatures are creeping in to the weather forecast, sunny days are abundant, but there is always a chance for a few more spring snowstorms to brush by our mountains. This Sunday, April 1st, will be marked by Park City Mountain Resort’s annual Clown Day festivities! Dress as a clown, or in any costume you like, and hit the slopes with all the other “clowns”! It’s a day full of spring-time fun, and a time to let loose a little and celebrate the changing of the seasons. If you’re looking for some evening entertainment, you absolutely need to take advantage of the Park City Film Series offering of The Artist, running March 30th through April 4th. Winner of numerous Oscars, including Best Picture, it has been touted the most unique film of the year. The film begins in 1927, the glamorous silent film era of Hollywood and details the story of a silent movie star and his vivacious extra. However, change is on the horizon as the new film technology begins to move in and the silent film stars of the past have a tough time coping. This funny, heartwarming and crowd-pleasing story of the film star and his love interest, the extra will be playing on Friday and Saturday at 8PM, and Sunday at 6PM. Interested in doing something really different off the slopes? The Park City Gun Club recently opened its doors in the Park City Business Center, and its range is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday year round. Although annual memberships are available, interested parties can go check out and try the range as well. The Club offers a safe and exciting shooting experience, with a few different ranges to choose from. They have a standard range, a live fire simulator, and a simulator room with lasers! They have every bit of equipment you might need to rent available at the club, including safety gear, for a reasonable price, and they allow you to try an assortment of guns. The Gun Club offers training and classes as well. Certainly a unique off-mountain experience and one offered in a safe, well-staffed environment. Our visitors are always asking where to eat while in Park City, and the choices are almost endless! If you’re looking for a more casual, inexpensive alternative to the fine dining choices lining Main Street, you should absolutely have lunch or dinner at the locals’ favorite Mexican joint – Chubasco Mexican Grill. A fun, social atmosphere awaits you upon entering the restaurant, and the first thing you’ll notice is their amazing salsa bar lined with homemade salsa choices to adorn your meal and chips with. The menu is on the wall behind the counter, and the staff is happy to make suggestions. Their burritos are delicious, and enormous! The selections are varied, and one more delicious than the next. The Egyptian Theatre always has a wide array of entertaining shows, and it’s an amazing little theater to boot! On March 29th, check out the Brothers of the Baladi, a Grammy-Nominated Middle Eastern / World Music band. Ok, so no one wants to visit the hospital when they are on vacation. However, the Park City Medical Center is a tribute to the local Park City community, as it was constructed primarily of materials that were derived from this very area. For starters, the hospital hired one of the region’s most respected green architects, Kenner Kingston, a LEED accredited architect. They instance, they used stone from Brown’s Canyon, only a few miles away. By doing this, they not also embraced local materials for their state-of-the-art facility; they also helped boost the local economy. The Park City Medical Center also used a multitude of recycled materials, and encourages recycling on its campus as well. Most importantly, they have an amazing café housed on the first level – a true local’s secret spot for lunch! I know it sounds crazy, but the food is fantastic! Their Chef works to use farm to table, fresh, local ingredients in his cooking, and of course the most healthful of ingredients. They even have a wood-fired oven! A staple for over 30 years, the Corner Store is a go-to spot for good times after a day playing in the snow. This Saturday, March 10th, beginning at 3PM, The Corner Store will offer skiers and boarders alike a chance to ride their mechanical bull while listening to a live performance by the Josh Taylor Band. All of this will take place on their large outdoor patio space and will run until 6PM in the evening. It truly amazes me on a daily basis how much there actually is to do in Park City! Of course, there is skiing/riding at any of the three world class resorts we are fortunate enough to have access to, and all within minutes of each other. However, if you are able to tear yourself away from your hot tub at the end of the day, there is so much going on in Park City, you could be busy from dusk until dawn if you so desired. The Egyptian Theater not only offers visitors a chance to glimpse in to Park City’s past with it’s historic landmark status, it also offers guests a chance to partake in a wide variety of entertaining productions. On March 2nd through the 3rd, Keith Barany will be bringing his brand pf comedy to the stage. He takes pride in producing a “clean” show so that folks of all ages can come and enjoy a night of comedy. Keith has appeared with Bob Hope, Jerry Sienfeld, Joan Rivers and John Stewart to name a few. HIs show is tasteful, hilarious, and never, ever corny. Keith brings along Brandon Vestal, who has appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and was named “Best of the West” at the Detroit Comedy Festival. Oscar Nominated Michelle Williams has been called delightful as well as moving as she portrays one of America’s beloved yet tortured public figures. This film revolves around the week Marilyn meets Sir Laurence Olivier on her honeymoon with the renowned Arthur Miller. “My Week with Marilyn” has beed described as a true delight to movie goers and a joy to watch. If the night out happens to be an adults-only event, you may want to have a post-movie cocktail. Although there are many great choices lining Main Street in Park City, a locals favorite is the No Name Saloon. Newly updated and expanded, now offering a roof-top patio, the No Name is a fun watering hole to enjoy a locally crafted microbrew.
